Anyone surprised that we didn't go on another ski trip for valentine's day weekend? :)
We decided to take a break from skiing and booked a last minute trip to Istanbul, Turkey. Hah! Yes, I just said last minute. We're so lucky...
Anyway, as soon as Andy got off work on Thursday we raced over to the airport and flew into Istanbul. Let me tell you... Turkish Airlines is pretty darn awesome. They provide a full meal with free beverages (including alcohol) on ALL flights no matter what time of day it is and it's actually really good food. Of course, Andy was in heaven.

We got into Istanbul late Thursday evening so we called it a night and woke up early the next morning. Not completely by choice though. Our hotel was located right next to the Blue Mosque so we were startled at sunrise when the morning prayer went off. Literally sounded like someone was in our bedroom! Didn't mind it for the rest of our trip. It was just a surprise that first morning.
On the first day, Andy and I hit the pavement hard and went to see the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Basilica Cistern, and the Grand Bazaar. On Saturday, we took a break from the sight seeing and participated in a Istanbul Eats Food Tour of the Old City. We started at 9:30AM in the Spice Market and ended around 3PM. The food & company was awesome! I highly recommend this tour to anyone who plans to visit Istanbul. In the evening we headed into Taksim Square where people go to shop in search of a place to grab dinner. We couldn't find a doner restaurant Andy was searching for but we landed upon Shake Shack! I think Andy was drooling. For those who don't know, it's really hard to get a good burger in Germany. Sunday we spent the morning taking photos around the area then went on a Bosphorus River cruise with a tour group (She Tours). It was a great relaxing way to spend Sunday.
We were really blessed and had beautiful sunny weather the entire trip (with the exception of rain on Saturday morning). It's unbelievable how mild it was. Crazy to think it's been snowing non-stop for our friends and family back in the states!
By the time we packed up our bags to leave on Monday, we both felt like we covered Istanbul pretty well and ready to head back home to Germany. Istanbul was a beautiful city and full of life.
Another trip down for the Kims!

Andy fell for a trap! This man dropped his brush and Andy was nice enough to run after him with it. This guy turns around and offers a shoe shine 'for a kind man'. We realize this isn't for free as his cousin sneaks up from behind and offers to shine my boots. Darn! We never fall for these things. Oh well.
Are you hungry yet? hah.
Until next time! Tschuss! :)
